Chain migration is when migrants follow relatives or people from their community who moved earlier, because those people provide housing, jobs and information. In New England, French-Canadian families moved from Québec to mill towns like Saco and Biddeford in the late 1800s, and once the first families were working in the mills their relatives followed them into the same neighbourhoods.
